In fact, this sort of project would take so long to create that it would probably be quicker for you to just work on your coding/scripting skills for an already existing engine. It would be extremely difficult for the Freebasic community to produce something of equal quality. The two engines I'm suggesting were developed by experts over the course of several years. I know it seems designed for FPS games, but it can be used for other genres, too (third person, fixed camera, etc.). The Unreal Engine is another good choice. Have you considered switching away from Linux so you can use Unity? It seems silly to recreate something like Unity from scratch just because it doesn't support Linux. If not, well I'll be sad then and you won't be part of something great.Īrtemis wrote:It really sounds to me like you're describing Unity or the Unreal Engine. So, will you help? If you do, we may make software that will revolutionize making 3D games, just like Stencyl did it to making flash games. Even though I'm not coding guru, I understand it and may even do some (very) simple coding. I am not coding god and never been, but as I've seen great 3d programmers here I'm sure that we can together pull this off. On my part I can do textures and sounds which program will be shipped with and design interface. "Blocks" (which may not be actual blocks) would be converted to code anyway - it would be just an interface which non-programmers would understand. Basic stuff could be done by dragging/selecting commands while more advanced would be done via code. So I thought on something, maybe we, The FreeBASIC community should make one? I know it'll be lot of work, more than making 3D game since we need to create also easy to use editor and simple scripting which make able people to make their games by clicking out them.įor coding thing I propose the way it was done in Stencyl or to less extend in BGE. Too bad for me all easy to use 3D engines are either crappy (Blender Game Engine - sure you can do wonderful things with it, but it's like painting Mona Lisa with MS Paint), genre-oriented (FPS Creator, 3D RPG Builder) or don't work on Linux (3D Rad, Unity). I was only able to make 2d games since there are lots of easy to use 2d game makers, like Multimedia Fusion or Stencyl (for which I was beta tester and I think it's great tool for making flash games).īut always wanted to make 3D game. Unfortunately, I always lacked skills (mainly coding ones) to make one.
